Sometimes, in the warmest summers, the ice clears up enough to allow a tourist cruise ship nearby, and they may even send out launches with a few tourists. Rich white people. They have orange parkas made to look like ours. They stroll around town, take photos of us, and get fed in our galley. The Antarctic Program used to be a navy project, so we still have some nautical slang. Now it’s under the auspices of the National Science Foundation.
